Who “out-hatted” Kate Middleton in Santa Barbara, California? Depending on how you look at it, either nobody did…or everybody did.
To the polo match, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a knee-length, silver and marble grey, hand-painted chinoiserie silk dress designed by Jenny Packham (with a clutch and open-toe sandals, both by L.K. Bennett). To the charity luncheon, Kate wore a navy and white crochet top and a white pleated skirt (both from Whistles) with navy pumps and an eggshell clutch. There were plenty of hats visible at the polo match (at times, it looked like B-roll footage from My Fair Lady!), but none on the Duchess. Kate was hat-less throughout her California visit!
Do you approve of Kate’s choices for casual California? Or would you have dressed her differently? And had you been one of the few fortunate to be in attendance, what would you have worn? Many actors and other celebrities—from Reese Witherspoon to Nicole Kidman to Rob Lowe to Zoe Saldana to Blake Lively to J-Lo—had to make this decision, knowing that the whole world would be watching…maybe even more of the world watching than these superstars are used to, even in their paparazzi-filled lives.
